Pasture Pals

Just Like Old Pals

Scarlett and Bones hang out together in their own special pasture now. Bones looks so awesome. He looked even worse than Scarlett when Julie rescued him. She's done an amazing job rehabbing him. The vet thinks he's around 30.

Scarlett is looking a lot better, we'll post more body condition pics this weekend. The farrier is coming this week so she'll have her feet trimmed. Sometimes Scarlett seems to stand around and "rest" a lot, at least when I'm there snapping pictures. Her ears are always up, it's so funny. I swear the horse is just so grateful. Taylor hand walks her a lot around the barn and she grazes on the early grass trying to come up, and she CHOWS DOWN. She's eating "grain" really well twice a day and she get's hay 24 /7. Poor thing, even though she's getting grain twice daily, she still walks up to, and looks in her feed buckets just making sure she didn't miss something. She nickers a lot too. It's so sweet. Stay tuned for more Scarlett ...

Scarlett and Bones

Bones at 30 ish . He wouldn't come up for air long enough for me to take a picture of his face.

I wonder what she thinks about these days. I wonder if she thinks about her previous life. She needs therapy! Poor old girl.

As I was leaving, she came up to the fence and foraged around her buckets as if to say "Did you bring me more feed?"

if you look at pature pals pictures then a week later you can actually see that she has gain some weight, some people probably dont think she has but I think sense we see everyday we can tell every pound she gains! I am so proud of bones also, he has turned out to be a wonderful horse,I think that we also did a wonderful job on him, what a horse, now with a friend!

she is looking better. i wondered about what she would think too... like is she waiting for the feed to dry up, and be hungry again? maybe that's why she rummages the buckets looking for every last morsel.
and how forgiving must she be to still nicker at people. maybe she does sense that you all are different, that y'all actually care about her.

bless her heart, i HATE that people did that to her! they deserve to be starved and suffer as she was!

Not only does she rattle the feed buckets, she licks them clean like a kid licking brownie batter. With all the love she's getting now I don't think she'll ever have to worry about being hungry or mistreated again. It's a sad story with a happy ending no matter when the end is.

I was born with a heart murmer. It only shows itself when my body is under stress (like when I have a high fever)and then it's gone again when I'm feeling better. Maybe when her body isn't quite so stressed out it will be the same with her. i'll keep my fingers crossed. She does look better already. Keep up the good work, I know she appreciates it.

That's what we are hoping. Julie's read that horses in this condition often develop heart murmurs and they clear up when they recover from starvation.
