Becoming a Fatty
Scarlett has blossomed and just continues to get fatter and prettier.
I found out that she really doesn't know anything, as far as riding goes.
She doesn't buck or rear, or fight you, she just stands there,
unless she is following her love, Bones.
She takes the saddle and bridle well, stands quietly for mounting and then just stands there. No amount of encouragement, kicking, nudging, clucking, crop, makes her move forward, backward or sideways.
This is just a prime example of how broodmares should all be saddle trained.
They don't immediately pass away after they are retired from breeding. Sadly, most breeders don't give their old mares the luxury of life out to pasture.
These old girls all deserve that, but in case that is not what is in store for them, they should be able to be ridden.
So, the next step with Scarlett is going to be a little ground work, some lounging, some ground driving and hopefully she will make a great horse for a little girl.
So here she is in all her fattness!

I never cease to be amazed at the recuperative abilities of starved horses. If they have the will to live and proper care, they gradually come back to at least something close to what they were before their luck in owners turned bad.
Scarlet looked like a lost cause in the first photos I saw of her. She looks just lovely now.
Congratulations to all those who rescued and assisted in her recovery.

Wow, fantastic recovery! I cannot believe the difference between almost dead and now. You've done wonders. And now, we're all keen to see the training videos!

wow!!! Such a huge improvement in such a short time! Scarlett's looking so great, and look at that butt! All girls should have a butt like that! xD

Beautiful! I've been following Scarlett's story since she first appeared on FHOTD. You have done a WONDERFUL job. I can only imagine how rewarding it is for you to see her now.

I came upon your site while googling the place where i got my mare several years ago. Did you get her from pony express in covington ga and if so did they let her or put her in that condition?

i forgot to leave my email address. please write me if you can and tell me about the circumstances. i am very curious about who put her in that state, and if it was pony express, then what has been done to stop this?
